Where has our first week gone? It is over and so is our first (and only solo) weekend. Not that we aren't packing the days to the brim with adventure, but time does pass here just as quickly as GA :)
Wednesday, the boys and I spent the day in an area called Yerba Buena Gardens. There is a nice playground there and a childrens museum called Zeum. We walked there in the morning, spent the day and walked back in the evening. It was about a 3 mile round-trip walk which was perfect for us. That was the bulk of the day. When David came home from work, we all walked to a local pizza place for dinner, and that was the end of that day :)
Thursday, we stayed closer to home. Did some laundry in our building. Walked to our little local area for lunch, a quick stop at the grocery store and Borders then back to get our laundry from the dryers. After that, we spent a little time at our complex pool - which is heated but still..it is a bit chilly for pool, but the boys had fun. The hot tub felt nice and warm though, we might have to go back to that :) David picked up up and we met friends for dinner in the Pacific Heights area.
Friday, we met David at his office for an early lunch. Then the boys and I headed to near-by Burlingame to the PEZ museum. It was funny...not sure what we expected, and it was pretty neat, but it was a tiny room in a tiny down town shop :) It was still interesting and entertaining for the boys and I. The city is near Stanford, and is a cute little area. After the museum, we walked around a bit and found a nice bakery with a playroom with kid-sized baking equipment. We played there and picked up some desserts for after dinner. Then we headed back to pick David up at his office. We spent the evening at Fisherman's Wharf. We picked up our Alcatraz tickets for next weekend (w/Neil & Stacie) - which was a good thing because we booked the last time for Sunday. Then we shopped a bit and had dinner at the Wharf - fresh crab, fish and chips and shrimp....YUM! All so fresh that it was a bit creepy :)
Saturday, we got up early to get a jump on the crowds...apparently, SF is a VERY popular for visitors and locals to get out and about this time of year. We started the morning with a drive down the super famous and super curvy Lombard Street. It was really cool!! Then we drove out to Muir Woods which is the most accessible area to find the giant Redwood trees (the others are about 4 hours one-way away). It was really cool - got lots of photos even though you can't really do these giants justice with a camera. The boys really enjoyed it mainly because they have a junior park ranger program. They got books and had to answer questions based on exhibits and their experiences. At the end, they get a badge and get sworn in by a real park ranger.
After Muir Woods, we drove to Cliff House and Lands End. Both are on the Pacific Ocean at the Northern part of SF. We walked on the beach near Cliff House and had a little picnic with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge at Lands End. Again, great photos of all this that I will share with you soon.
Then we headed over to Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower. We checked out the views though we decided to not wait in the long line to go to the top of the tower where the best views are. On the way 'home', we stopped at Whole Foods to pick up some food for dinner at home. Then showers and bed!
Sunday, we slept in a bit (about 9am) and made eggs, turkey bacon and chocolate chip waffles for breakfast. We had planned to see the 1pm baseball game that is practically across the street from us, but the prices were too expensive. We opted to drive over the Bay Bridge to Berkeley. There is a big park there, Tilden Park, where we rode some miniature trains and had some picnic snacks. Then we drove through the UC Berkeley campus and stopped for a late lunch in the down town area...topped off with some $1/scoop ice creams :)
Now, we are at 'home' catching up on the computer and resting a bit. We are now headed out to the pier across the street on the bay to play on the playground (that we are hoping/suspecting is there). We might walk down to a street craft market we saw yesterday. Then dinner.
