Oh Those Boys of Ours!!!

Ethan has recently completed his first major project.  It was based on their lesson on landforms.  He had to model at least 6 specific landforms and then orally present it to his class.  He did such an excellent job!  He insisted on modeling a few extra landforms, his favorites, a Mesa and a Delta even though they weren't on the list.  A few photos and a video!  Oh, he got the absolute highest grade possible, a 3+!

 

We'll just go ahead and officially label this the mommy clone post (aka, mommy's little nerds).  I do try to be impartial like a journalist here and just report the facts, the Ethan and Ryan heavy facts, but the facts and try to avoid the motherly gushing, undertones notwithstanding of 'oh, my children are the smartest, cutest, best in the world....try to teach them humility and modesty AND build their self confidence and pride...it is a slippery edge that we walk daily!

Regardless, the other day, Ethan was sitting at his table in the playroom with a book which is wonderful enough to see as a parent since that was his choice.  It was on the weekend, and he could have elected to draw, play, be on the computer - anything as it was free time.  But, on closer inspection, turns out he was reading his DICTIONARY!!  He is VERY excited to learn new words and add to his vocabulary...that started as a side effect of us reading Harry Potter at night.  There are always a few words that he goes back and asks me what they mean, so we go over them and how to use them and then he adds them to his vocabulary and actually uses them correctly most of the time!!!  Most recently, we have picked up 'fascinating' and 'humiliating'.

Also this weekend, Ryan learned how to do soduku...first with pictures, but he quickly got it and moved on to the numbers one!  He was doing SO WELL with them.  Almost to the level to where he wouldn't just do one square at a time, he would look at it for a while, and then just say, 'this goes here and this goes here' and have the whole grid right!  Maybe he will be a little numbers savant?!?  If not, then maybe he has a future as a performer...he wanted to make a video of himself singing a custom song, 'I do my best; I shake my booty'.  Enjoy!

Ethan tells me yesterday that he would like to have more choices in his footwear :)  He wanted to know why he only has one pair of tennis shoes to wear every day??   Side note:  the boy both have a pair of tennis shoes that they basically only wear to school.  They both have crocs that they wear all the other times when not at school.  They also have a pair of sandals and/or flip flops and then shoes for a purpose, swim shoes, soccer cleats and dress shoes.  But, on a daily basis, I just haven't seen the need to have multiple pairs of tennis shoes in the same size....but, I told Ethan we could discuss it and look into it.  That was enough for him!  Don't know where that idea came from?!?
