New Belts

The boys had karate belt testing this weekend. They both had to go before a panel of Senseis (does that word have a plural?), and do their katas (series of moves). Ethan was AMAZING! He has room to improve, but he was solid! He earned his next belt which is white with a yellow stripe. Was he ever proud!!! He was beaming.

The sad part is that Ry wasn't so great. He didn't pass and get his belt. There is one kata that always gets him because there are lots of pivots on each foot in all directions with blocks and punches (honestly, it's tough for me to remember!). So, the sensei said he could re-test. Which he did today after school, and he passed! We have worked on it at home since Saturday AND last night at karate class. He still isn't perfect, but his teacher praised his perseverance (and we were all impressed with his reaction on Saturday - he took it in stride and didn't get upset at all - I was more sad - but hidden from him - than he seemed). So, now they both begin to work for the next belt, a yellow with white strip :) which they should earn in about 3 months time.

We have lots of other things going on too, but alas, there is no time to tell you now. We are in the middle of Passover, and we have Seder dinners to attend. We also have prep for our Spring Break vacation and work and school and speech and karate and on and on....more soon!
