Recovering Nicely

Ryan's procedures today were all successful. He is now home and resting well. Actually, the day went well, and I feel like I was holding my breath all day. We got to the surgical center at 6am (we had a less than 10 minute commute from Cotswold. We left Ethan sleeping nicely. We were one of the first cases at 7:30am and everything was perfectly on schedule. Dr Lipsky went first and came out within 15-20 minutes to tell us that everything went well with the Crawford (eye) Tubes and that he found blockages in both tear ducts which was no surprise. About 30-40 minutes later, Dr Gower came out to tell us that her procedures went well. She encountered some thick fluid in the ears but no infection.

A little after that, they brought Ryan to us from recovery. He was in and out for a while letting the anesthesia wear off. It took about an hour and half for him to wake up, talk and drink juice, so then they removed the IV and we were able to go home. He fell asleep on the car ride home and slept at home for about 4 hours which was expected from both the meds and how early we were up this morning. When he woke up he was hungry but in good spirits. I gave him Jell-o and he kept it down well and wanted more, so we moved to mac-n-cheese. My dad came about that time and brought the boys biscuits...Ryan ate it all and wanted more. That was one of my biggest fears, that he would have pain with swallowing, but seems to have none. I did give him a dose of tylenol, but haven't had to use his Rx pain meds and probably won't. He is such a trooper.

We are going to take it easy for a couple of days, but seems he will be back to normal by next week. What a relief to have that past us. Of course, we need to still hope that we get the results we want. We know he will have to go back to have the eye tubes removed in about 6 months, but aside from that, really hoping there won't be the need for any other surgeries for him.

You can already tell he can hear better - and they told us that he may be sensitive to sounds for a little while as he adjusts from hearing everything slightly muffled to hearing in high-def!
