Mom's New MRI

I saw mom's neurologist and oncologist at the hospital yesterday. Well, let me start with mom, she is still sleeping 90% of the time...she says she is just so sleepy and can't seem to stay awake.

Her MRI results are in and not pretty. She still has 8-9 tumors in the brain. They don't yet have the initial MRI for comparrison, so we don't know if they are shrinking of not, but it isn't the best news that they are all still there. She also has a subdural hematoma likely caused by one of her recent falls at home. It isn't too much of a concern because it doens't seem to be putting pressure on the brain. There is also several sites of bleeding within the brain most likely due to the tumors. They are relative small, but could grow and become more of a concern. The most troubling, mom has several mini-strokes in several areas of the brain all within the past couple of weeks. They aren't sure what caused them and are most concerned about more occuring. Normally, they would immediatly put her on a blood thinner to combat this, but with bleeding in the brain, it could be dangerous to thin her blood.

The doctors are still deciding what might be best...and trying to gather more information. The brain is such a delicate place and any little change could cause significant swelling and/or pressure that could be dangerous.

She still isn't eating - at all - no food and very little ensure or anything like that. She is getting fluids. She is confused a bit on some levels but very aware and accurate on others. Overwhelmingly, she is just sleepy.

We are not sure when she will go home now...we have so much else to conquer at this point. It is really looking like we won't even get to the chemo part...but that is a far off goal at this point...and in my mind, we really want to see the comparison with the initial MRI to see what the radiation accomplished.

Dad is doing well - a bit lonely...but hanging in there. He has Taffy (and the lottery stores) to keep him company :) I did get a bit of good news yesterday...his heart doctor practice is now officially on his insurance plan!!! YEAH. So, now he needs to get in there for a few tests. He has his ortho apt tomorrow to drain his cyst.

I have big dinner plans tonight with my BFFs from school...Dawn is in town for the weekend, so Kristy and Jen and I are meeting her for a quick dinner. Should be fun. David is taking the boys to dinner with his parents.
